Other championships the HGA has helped secure: - 1969 U.S. Open
- 1967 Ryder Cup Matches
- 1981 USGA Men's Amateur Public Links
- 1989 USGA Senior Men's Amateur
- 1989 USGA Senior Women's Amateur
- 1993 USGA Men's Amateur Championship
- 1998 USGA Women's Mid-Amateur Championship
- 1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 PGA TOUR Championships
HGA is a not-for-profit, tax exempt 501c (3) organization whose mission is to promote the game of golf for the benefit of local youth-oriented charities. Since 1974, the men and women who donate their time to serve as HGA members have generated more than $42 million for local youth-oriented charities. The HGA ensures that funds generated by the Shell Houston Open are put to work locally so that the proceeds of its PGA TOUR event directly impacts the local community. HGA also underwrites the costs of a junior golf tournament program and The First Tee of Houston/Redstone. Find out more about these HGA programs by visiting their respective web pages.
