The Houston Amateur Golf Association is a Bronze Sponsor of the HGA Junior Golf Program. Founded in 1952, HAGA is a men's golf association whose purpose is to play golf tournaments year round on a variety of courses in the Houston area. The main objective of the organization is to provide an ongoing venue in which golfers can participate, compete, have fun and enjoy the game. All events are governed by the Rules of Golf, with the USGA handicap system being utilized to establish and maintain handicaps. Stroke play tournaments are held approximately every other weekend throughout the year, along with an annual Club Championship, Summer and Winter 'tours' consisting of seven events each, a 'Masters' tournament weekend, one or more match play competitions and annual recognition of the Player of the Year, who represents HAGA in the Shell Houston Open Pro-Am.
HAGA is an all volunteer organization whose main assets are it's members, many of whom spend a great deal of time supporting and participating in the activities of an organization they care about and enjoy. For over 50 years HAGA has been a significant part of the Houston area golf community and history.
