HGA Junior Golf Season Wrap-Up
August 16, 2012 -

HGA Junior Golf wrapped up its 56th season with the final round of the Tournament of Champions Tuesday, August 14th.
The program would like to thank its title sponsor, Memorial Hermann, for bringing the game of golf to the more than 860 HGA Junior Golf members in 2012.
In all, over 50 tournaments were conducted in 2012 on 40 golf courses. Tournaments were played primarily on Mondays with the exception of a select few events conducted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each junior played an average of four tournaments apiece this season.
The Performance Series (PSE), made up of six 36-hole events along with the HGA Junior Match Play Championship and Tournament of Champions, highlighted the best juniors in the Houston-area. Juniors competed for exemptions into the state's premiere events on the Legends Junior Tour and AJGA performance based entry. Each score was again recorded on the Junior Golf Scoreboard giving PSE members the opportunity to pit their scores up against juniors from all over the country.
The basis for which the program was started, the Junior Series, still makes up the majority of HGA Junior Golf's membership and events. This series enables juniors to improve and grow in the game of golf whether a member wants to take part in healthy competition or advance his skills to advance to the Performance Series. The season culminates in the 36-hole Tournament of Champions, run in conjunction with the PSE Tournament of Champions, giving the Junior Series member a glimpse into competitive golf beyond the one-day, 18-hole tournament they typically see.
Both series competed for points each week to qualify for the Tournament of Champions and ultimately the title of Player of the Year. Those honories for 2012 are listed below:

Mario Carmona (Boys 15-18)
Colin Mulligan (Boys 12-14)

The Championship will be held September 8-9 at the site of the Shell Houston Open, Redstone Golf Club - Tournament Course. The top 55 boys and 20 girls will compete over two days and 36 holes to earn the title of City Junior Champion.
