ABOUT AMATEUR GOLF

Best known for its involvement with the Shell Houston Open, the Houston Golf Association also is a regional amateur golf association. HGA conducts the Men's Greater Houston City Amateur, Senior Men's Greater Houston City Amateur and the Houston Junior Amateur championships. HGA's nationally acclaimed Junior Golf Tournament program features more than 70 events for youngsters age 12-18. In addition HGA also conducts 40-plus corporate golf outings for Shell Houston Open sponsors and HGA members each year.

Owen Joyner won the 2009 Men's Greater Houston City Amateur played Sept. 18-20 at Memorial Park Golf Course. The 2010 event is set Oct. 8-10.
Hunter Nelson won the 2009 Senior Men's Greater Houston City Amateur played Oct. 10-11 at Memorial Park Golf Course. Doyle Sturman won the Super Senior Division for golfer's 65-and-over. The 2010 event is set Oct. 15-17.
Tyler Beck won the Boys Division and Kayli Quinton won the Girls Division of the 2009 Greater Houston Junior Championship played Aug. 29-30 at Redstone Golf Cub -- Tournament Course. The 2010 event is set Aug. 28-19.

The Shell Houston Open is the premier event of the Houston Golf Association.

The First Tee of Houston/Redstone is dedicated to impacting the lives of young people in the Greater Houston area by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
