Guidry wins 2nd Greater Houston Amateur titleOctober 10 — Kip Guidry of Missouri City birdied the final hole to avoid a playoff and win his second Greater Houston Men's Amateur Championship at Memorial Park Golf Course. Guidry, the 2007 champion, holed a 35-foot birdie foot to secure a 1-stroke victory over Justin Kaplan, who then converted his 4-foot birdie putt. For the record Guidry shot 68-67-70-72 for a 7-under-par 277 total on the 7,190-yard, par-71 layout. Kaplan, who scored a hole-in-one on the 191-yard 7th hole in the second round, posted scores of 69-68-71-70 — 278. The top 10 finishers are exempt for the 2011 Championship, including: Conor Black of Katy (72-282), Jared Valena (72-282), Chris Forbes of Katy (69-285), Adam Valickus (70-285), Bob Kearney (70-288), Hunter Nelson (73-288), John Dowdall (73-289) and Trent Booher of Sugar Land (73-2900. More than 500 area golfers attempted to qualify for the 144-player field. The field was trimmed to the low 40 scorers and ties after Saturday's second round.
